The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketia says Ghanaians must not be surprised by the violence being perpetrated by members of the New Patriotic Party since his party warned them on several occasions.

Following the swearing-in of President Nana Akufo-Addo on Saturday, some supporters of the NPP have attacked several government agencies and installations demanding to take over such facilities.

Some NPP members have been on rampage seizing several toll booths across the country as well as offices of state institutions such as YEA, NADMO, Passport Office, Tema Port among others in Accra and other parts of the country.

The official vehicle of the Municipal Chief Executive of Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency in the Western region James Atta Kakra Baidoo was also impounded by the some NPP youth Monday evening.

However, in an interview on Accra FM, Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito said the NDC warned against voting for Akufo-Addo since such lawless takeovers were likely to happen.

“We warned Ghanaians that Nana Addo, as president, will foment chaos…this is the first transition that has a law to guide it, so, if Nana Addo as president cannot control his party people and security, then it says a lot about him. I believe he is aware of all that is happening.

“Mass dismissals are now impossible during a transition process; you can’t ask people in public office to ‘proceed on leave’ just anyhow without recourse to the transitional law, they should also learn from former presidents Mills and Mahama who demonstrated tolerance towards public officers appointed by the previous government at the time they took office.

They [NPP] should rein their boys in, otherwise Nana Addo will be held responsible for any chaos.”
